Rosa Hyun Perkins – Board Chair, Director, and President
Rosa Perkins is a native Chicagoan. With over 20 years of experience in finance, Rosa held senior positions in investment banking at Salomon Smith Barney, Greenwich Capital and JP Morgan where she managed the origination of structured deals, mortgage backed securities and asset backed securities. In these roles, she also provided advisory services to banks, mortgage companies and real estate investment trusts. After her career in investment banking, Rosa transitioned to the buy-side where she worked in hedge fund marketing at Sorin Capital. Most recently, Rosa served as a consultant, providing advisory services to domestic and international financial institutions.
Rosa is passionate about community service and civic engagement. Throughout her academic and professional career, Rosa tutored and mentored low-income, underperforming students in Chicago and New York. She recently launched a local sports scholarship program that provided funding for disadvantaged children to participate in local sports. In 2017, Rosa was named the Horizons Chicago Exploratory Committee Co-Chair. In this capacity, she helped launch Horizons programs in Chicago’s South and West Sides. As of June 2018, Rosa is the Regional Board Chair for Horizons National Chicago.
Rosa received her undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Chicago in 1994 and her MBA in Finance and Strategic Management from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2000.
Todd Barnett – Director and Vice President
Todd Barnett has more than 20 years' experience in urban education and nonprofit leadership in Chicago. Currently, Todd serves as the Director of Strategy for the Institute for Positive Living. Prior to this role, Todd was a founding member of the University of Chicago Charter School Donoghue Campus and a member of the senior leadership team where he served as the Director of Partnerships and Family and Community Engagement. Todd has worked to support young people and their families through access to high quality programs and resources while honing in on their assets to reach their fullest potential. Todd is well skilled in the areas of: partnership building, program development, management, and family & community engagement. Todd actively serves on the Executive Boards of the LUV Institute and the Horizons National Chicago Board. Todd earned a BA in Sociology from Bradley University and an MA in Professional Studies from DePaul University. Todd is a native of Milwaukee, WI and currently lives in South Shore with his wife.
Kate Hurlock – Director and Secretary
Prior to stepping down from the Management Team at Horizons National in 2022, Ms. Hurlock led the Capacity Building Team, working with affiliate leadership to support and improve the sustainability of Horizons programs across the country. Prior to that she held roles in Expansion, Marketing and Communications. Before joining Horizons National, Ms. Hurlock had her own business in Connecticut.
Hurlock started her career in Network News, working as a Producer for ABC News in Washington, D.C., then in New York, and Europe, covering London and Moscow. She worked on the Sydney 2000 Olympics Games for NBC, and has produced specials for Amazon Prime and ABC. Ms. Hurlock grew up in Chicago, and attended Dartmouth College.
Kim Taylor – Director
Prior to retiring from her role as President, Clearing and Post-Trade Services at CME Group in December 2017, Taylor was President of Global Operations, Technology & Risk from September 2014 to November 2016. Previously she was President, CME Clearing since 2004 when CME also began clearing all Chicago Board of Trade (“CBOT”) contracts. She led the clearing house through the challenges of CME’s subsequent acquisitions of CBOT and the New York Mercantile Exchange, as well as leading the industry through the 2008 financial crisis and the MF Global bankruptcy in 2011. She first joined CME in 1989 as a senior analyst, assuming responsibility in 1998 for risk management and earning various promotions in ensuing years. She served on the CME executive management team from 2004 until her retirement. Taylor serves on the boards of directors for First Midwest Bank, Eventus Systems, and Alma College and previously served on the board for both ISDA and the Illinois Math and Science Academy (IMSA). Taylor is an expert in risk management, crisis management, derivatives regulation, and FCM bankruptcy. In 2014 Crain’s Chicago Business named Taylor number nine on its list of the top 20 most powerful women in Chicago business.
Audrey Smith – Director, Treasurer & Regional Director
Audrey Smith has more than 20 years of domestic and international experience in finance, primarily in the manufacturing and consumer products industries. Prior to her retirement, Ms. Smith was most recently Vice President and Controller of DRiV (a then-pending spinoff company from Tenneco Inc. for which she was previously the Vice President and Controller). Prior to joining Tenneco, Ms. Smith had almost fifteen years of leadership experience in roles of increasing responsibility with both privately-held and publicly traded enterprises including US Foods, Navistar, and Follett Corporation. Prior to her industry experience, Ms. Smith spent more than seven years in the audit practice of the professional services firm Deloitte (previously Deloitte & Touche, LLP). Ms. Smith’s experience has included developing and leading diverse and effective teams, with responsibilities for enterprise close and consolidation, complex accounting matters, including business combinations, SEC and internal management reporting, shared-service centers, and business process and internal control design, evaluation, and remediation.
Ms. Smith is a resident of the Hyde Park / Kenwood community in Chicago, and has an undergraduate degree in accounting and minor in psychology from Western Michigan University. Ms. Smith is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Illinois.
Sean Smith - Director
Sean has held senior leadership positions within the financial services industry including positions at Qontigo Inc, a subsidiary of Deutsche Borse Group, London Stock Exchange Group, and CME Group. Earlier in his career at CME, he held senior roles in the clearing, client development and sales divisions, ranging from clearing solutions to heading the global sales team covering bank clients. Sean is also a former derivatives trader on several exchanges, including the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange and CME Group.
Regina Armour – Director
Dr. Regina Armour is currently the Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for Concept Schools. She started 10 years ago as the Director of Community Engagement & New School Development. She received her doctorate from National Louis University’s National College of Education and her research focuses on equity, instructional & organizational coaching and culture transformation. Her work in schools began with becoming an intermediate and upper grade teacher of biological sciences and math. She has also taught high school, community college, university undergraduate, graduate & doctoral students.
Dr. Armour is also a certified Evocative Coach through The Center for School Transformation (Boston), which espouses a protocol to expedite individuals and organizations in re-writing their own stories and demonstrate authentic diversity, inclusion, belonging and welcomes multiple perspectives.
Mike Walsh – Director
Mike Walsh is a founding partner of The Indelible, a Chicago-based brand consultancy. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Mike came to Chicago behind the wheel of a 27 foot-long hotdog in which he served as a spokesman Oscar Mayer. In the ensuing 25 years he worked at a number of brand and design agencies before founding The Indelible in 2023.
From 2004 through 2014 Mike was a mentor, through a charitable organization, to a student from Chicago's Lawndale community. It was this experience that piqued his interest in Horizons National, having brought him face-to-face with the importance of year-round engagement for students.
Mike is also the author of Bowling Across America, which is widely regarded as the world's premier bowling-themed travel memoir, published by St. Martin's Press in 2008.
Daniel Yih – Director
Daniel "Dan" Yih is recently retired but spent his career in operations, asset management, and investment. Dan spent the past 17 years with Starwood Capital Group, a global private investment firm with a primary focus in real estate, serving in various roles including Global Chief Operating Officer, Chief Investment Officer-Europe, and most recently as President, Starwood Outdoors. Prior to Starwood, Dan worked with GTCR LLC, a leading private equity firm. Dan was also CEO of BR Guest Restaurants and the CFO of Welbilt Corporation and Midway Airlines. He currently serves on the Board of Rush Street Interactive, Waterton Partners, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and Horizons National. Dan was previously Chair of The Thacher School Board and a member of the boards of Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Anne Inc. Dan received his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Stanford University; JD degree from the University of Chicago Law School; and MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Dan and his wife Nancy live in Jackson, Wyoming.
